Course Management Tips For Better Golfing Scores

The game is golf is a lot of fun to play and this is especially true if you are getting better. Course management is one of the often most overlooked aspects of the game that can make a lot of people drop their handicap fast without having to do much practice. Most amateurs try to do too much on the course and end up wasting a lot of shots. You want to always hit the shot you know you can hit so if you step over a shot and are doubting your ability to execute it then you need to back off and rethink the shot, perhaps you need to be more conservative and instead of always taking driver on a short par 4, you may want to consider taking a 3 wood or an iron even if it means hitting the fairway and staying in play.

Your goal on most holes should be to hit the fairway around the 150 marker so you have a short iron into the green. Be aggressive with your short game and more conservative off the tee as it is easier to make mistakes from the tee box. Work hard on building a strong short game so that you can get up and down more often and shoot better scores. A great short game will also make you a better ball striker since you will be more confident with the long shots since you know that even if you miss a fairway or a green you have the short game skills to recover most of the time.

When hitting approach shots into the green you do not want to be too aggressive and chase every pin position. On some holes you will find the pins placed in very tight locations close to hazards and such. In these cases it is best to aim for the center of the green around 20 feet from the hole instead of risking going for a tight pin placement and ending up in a hazard. Sometimes you need to accept a bogey instead of trying to get too aggressive after say a bad tee shot and then ending up with a double or triple bogey. Even the best players will a bogey or two every round so learn to accept them once in a while. Click here to learn more on how to shoot better golf scores.
