Increase Golf Driving Distance And Accuracy For Lower Scores

Hitting the driver is one of the most difficult shots in golf but it can also be the most fun and is the main reason a lot of people start playing the game in the first place. Hitting the driver far is a function of proper mechanics and developing high club head speeds. Remember that without proper technique, club head speed does not matter since if you make contact with the ball outside the sweet spot you will lose ball speed and you will also put the wrong kind of spin which will send the ball in the wrong direction.

Pick the right driver:

Selecting the right kind of driver for your swing type is important if you want to hit the ball as well as possible. If your club head speed is over 100 mph then you want a driver with a stiff shaft and you want a driver with around 9.5 degrees or less of loft. On the other hand if your club head speed is less than 100 mph then go with a regular flex shaft with 10 degrees of loft or higher. Go to a local PGA professional and get your club head speed measured and also consider getting a customized club based on your swing characteristics before you buy a new driver as many golf stores offer that service.

Leverage is a key component to hitting the ball farther. One way to increase leverage or lag is by stopping at the top of the swing and making sure you start the weight shift towards the target before you bring the club down. Also focus on a whipping like motion as this will also encourage a swing with more lag. Do not get carried away and try to create too much lag as that can be bad for your swing too. While you do not need to be big or muscular to hit long drives you still need to have a certain level of strength.

Many of the top professionals know the importance of strengthening all their muscles so training with weights is probably the best way to do this. This applies to both men and women who should not be afraid to weight train. As long as women lift lighter weights than men then they will not get bulky and will still maintain a slender and attractive appearance. You must have good swing mechanics to hit the driver well so club head speed alone is not enough. Spend time on the range working on your mechanics and take lessons if you are a beginner to learn the basic swing mechanics of the driver swing.
