Golf Swing Tips
The golf swing can be a complicated and frustrating thing to learn. There are a lot of different ways to swing the club that can work well for you and many times it is the simplest swing that usually works best for most amateur players. Here are some tips to help you get better more quickly:
Proper Grip:
The grip is a very important aspect to playing good golf. The first grip type is the interlocking one where the index finger of the left and the little finger of the right hand essentially interlock. This grip is usually ideal for those with smaller hands or thicker hands as it provides a more secure hold of the club. The overlapping grip type requires the small finger of the right hand to sit on top of the index finger of the left hand. This is a slightly weaker grip type so it is generally used by those that have strong wrists and forearms and have a tendency to grip the club too tightly. The baseball grip is simply holding the club with both hands with no overlapping occurring at all. This is the grip type most beginners tend to use however for some people this grip type might work best.
The Swing Motion:
The stance is important and you want to have your weight equally balanced on both feet during the setup. The ball position should be in the center of your stance for the wedge and slowly moves towards your left leg for longer clubs. Be sure to bend at the hips and do not slouch your back and also try to maintain some flex in your knees. Also do your best to keep your spine straight and avoid bending at the spine.
The back swing should start with your left arm staying straight with a one piece takeaway. Your rhythm should be consistent throughout the swing, so if you are generally a fast paced swinger of the club then keep it the same on the back and down swings. You want to try to keep the left arm as straight as possible throughout the back swing and reach back as far as you can without straining yourself.
The downswing should start with a lateral weight shift towards the target before lowering the hands from the top of the swing. This will help to load the club before release and should generate more lag and club head speed. At impact, be sure your head is behind the ball and most of your weight has been transferred to the left side, if you are a right handed player. Follow through fully by transferring all your weight to the left side and making a full shoulder turn towards the target. Click here to learn more simple golf swing tips.
